Hey, friends!
Maybe it’s just me but I feel like the end of summer can be a pretty boring time with not a lot going on. You’re done taking trips but school/sports seasons haven’t started yet and there’s just not a lot going on. So if you’re out of ideas on what to do until school starts, this post is for you!
1. go for a walk
Going for a walk is honestly perfect for when you’re bored, and there are so many different things you can do. Listen to a book (check out this post for free ways to listen to audiobooks!) or podcast, do a prayer or gratitude walk, invite a friend or sibling to go with you, stop somewhere and get a drink, or whatever you want to do.
2. read
I’m really bad at actually reading & being consistent with it (post on that coming soon!), so when I’m not doing something else, I usually try to read. If you don’t have a book to read, take a walk to your local library or bookstore and see if you can find something there!
3. cleaning
Cleaning isn’t necessarily something fun to do when you’re bored, but it is something productive and having your space neat & organized can change your whole mood. Even if you just set a time for 10 or 15 minutes, you can get a lot done. Or if you’re space is really messy, set 5 minute timers for each area (e.g. pick up any trash & throw it away, find any thing that doesn’t belong and put it where it goes, wash your sheets, hang up your clothes, etc) and do that for 30 minutes and see how clean you can get your space.
4. bake something new or make a fun drink
I love trying new recipes and I love making fun drinks. I’ve posted tons of recipes on here so I’m not going to go into this super in-depth, but baking something you’ve made before and making your favorite drink (tea, coffee, smoothie, etc) is always fun!
Drink recipes: Chai Latte, London Fog, Caramel Vanilla Iced Tea, Blueberry Iced Tea | Food/snack recipes: Homemade Soft Pretzels, Chocolate Cake Pops, Blueberry Lemon Muffins, Cheesecake Brownies, Easy & Healthy Snacks
5. learn new hairstyles
Pretty self-explanatory but learning new hairstyles is a great thing to do when you’re bored. There is always something you can do whether it’s dutch braids, french braids, fishtail, heatless curls, & so much more!
6. plan / set goals
You can plan your workouts, school (if it’s during the school season), chores, blog posts, your week/day, and so many other things.
7. workout / stretch / run
Movement is so important for how you feel, and also for your attitude! Whether that’s going to the gym, doing a home workout, going for a walk around the block, a 7 mile run, practicing your sport, do whatever you love & get some movement in.
8. make bracelets
Simple but such a cute summery idea! You can make them for yourself or your friends.
9. pray / do Bible study
Even if you already did your Bible study for the day, you can always Bible journal, make scripture art, listen to a sermon, journal your thoughts on scripture, listen to worship music or just pray, because at least for me, I can always spend more time praying & worshiping God.
10. draw/doodle/color while watching a movie/video or listen to a podcast/audiobook
Even if you don’t like drawing, coloring or doodling while watching or listening to something is always something I enjoy. You can print out pretty coloring sheets if you don’t already have a book or look up doodle ideas on Pinterest and then use whatever markers and pens you already have.
11. paint w/ watercolors or acrylics
I haven’t done this recently but there was definitely a time where I loved to do watercolors & just paint in general. You can do a pretty background and then write or print a verse or quote to put on it. I did this at our church’s vbs and it was so much fun!
12. go for a bike ride
Just like going for a walk, going on a bike ride and getting outside is so good for you!
13. make a morning/evening routine
Especially with school starting in the next couple weeks, making a plan for a good morning and evening routine & how you can carry it out is a great thing to do when you’re bored! There are tons of ideas on Pinterest & Youtube (Ashley Hetherington is my favorite for these!) for morning routines that you can customize to work for you.
14. tye die shirts/socks/hoodie/pillowcase
You do need more supplies for this, but tie-dying is a perfect craft project, even if you don’t think you’re creative or good at crafts. They always turn out so cool and cute! You can get kits with everything you need for under $15 from Walmart, Target, or any craft store.
15. bullet journal / scrapbook
Another craft/art project that you don’t need to be really artsy for. Scrapbooking is a great way to look back at all your memories and photos and easy to do! Mayim did a whole post on this a couple of weeks ago that has tons of inspiration. Bullet journaling is great to do whether you’re planning or just making fun spreads.
now, it’s your turn!
Favorite idea from this post? Anything I should add to it?
I have so many ideas for posts in the next couple weeks since summer is almost over and fall will be here in less than a month (not officially but September 1st is when fall should actually start 😂) You guys know how much I love fall content but let me know if there’s anything specific you want to read or see!

These are some great ideas! I tend to default to scrolling when I’m bored, so these activities would probably be good for me 🤣

Love these! Running had given me such a greater appreciation for walking, haha, so going for a walk is probably my favorite idea.
