Hello, my friends!
I don’t know about you, but I love it when my space, especially my bedroom, feels nice, fresh, and clean. And since it’s almost spring, it’s the perfect time to do this. Whether you want to declutter your bedroom, clean up your workspace, or just make your space feel fresher without redecorating the whole room, this post is for you!
1. dust, sweep, and do some general cleaning
This seems obvious, but it’s so helpful. If you take the time to dust off your dresser and shelves, it makes your room seem so much better. I also have the habit of getting marker or spilling tea on my desk, so if you’re like me, your desk/table could probably use a bit of scrubbing. Taking the few minutes to do some general cleaning will make your space feel so much cleaner!
2. add some plants
Plants are one of the best ways to freshen up any space. It’s a great way to bring some freshness into any room! There are so many easy to grow plants out there or succulents, too, that I’m sure you can find some that fit your lighting situation.
3. declutter
If you’re the kind of person to have lots of knickknacks and trinkets out, it might be time to put some of them away. I have a box in that I keep all of my souvenirs and special things that work well so they don’t get lost but I can still see them when I want to. Also, if you have a lot of photos & art up on the walls, your room might look artsy and boho, but if you’re going for a clean, fresh, and minimalist look, you might want to take those down. Having clean walls, clean bookshelves, and a clean desk will make the room instantly feel cleaner and brighter.
4. replace photos / redo your bulletin board
I have a ton of winter photos hanging in my room and up on my bulletin board, so if you’re like me, it’s time to change them out. I’m using all the spring photos I took last year until I get a chance to photograph new ones. So, change out those photos and update your bulletin board, if you have one!
5. wash your sheets and air them out
Personally, I can’t stand dirty, grimy sheets. I have to wash mine at least once a week. Every time I wash them, I always feel so clean when I hop into bed that night. I 100% recommend it.
6. open windows and let fresh air in
You’re very lucky if you can do this because, at the time I’m writing this post, there is 12 inches of snow on the ground. 😛 But if you don’t live in the frigid Midwest and it’s nice outside, open up the windows!
Don’t open them on rainy or humid days (otherwise it will make the room feel super humid), instead choose a cool sunny day and leave them open for a while. Or leave them open at night, keep in mind, you might wake up to a chilly bedroom.
7. make your bed
This is simple and goes with the fifth tip, but it’s an everyday thing you can do to make your room look better. I actually hate making my bed for some reason, but I still do it because it makes my room so much better. And after a long day, climbing into a nice already-made bed is so nice. 😀
8. go through & get rid of things you’re not using
Are there any boxes hiding anywhere that are full of random junk that you don’t want to deal with? Well, it’s time to deal with them. 😉 If you’re not going to use the things inside, either throw them away or donate them. Also, if you have younger siblings, make sure to check to see if it’s something they would want before you get rid of it.
9. organize all the places you can’t see
Like your closet, and under your bed, and that cabinet that’s the perfect place to stuff random things in that you don’t want to bother with. . . use tip #8 and get rid of the things you don’t want, and organize the things that you keep. I find that having a clean dresser with neatly folded clothes, a closet where all my clothes are hanging, and any other spaces that you can’t see but get are so nice to have clean.
10. choose a light color scheme
The general color scheme for my room is white, pastel blue, and pastel yellow, with a bit of black. It makes my room feel so much lighter and airy. And since I have a small room, it makes it seem larger. If you have a darker wall color and can’t change it, try accenting with whites, off-whites, creams, and pastels.
Now, it’s your turn!
I hope this post was helpful and that you’re feeling more inspired to get your space tidy. ✨ 😂 All of the photos for this post were taken in my own bedroom, so if you’d like to see the full room tour for it, click here. Before you go, I’d love to hear your answers to these questions. . .
What’s your best spring cleaning tip? Do you hate making your bed, too?Do you like lighter or darker colors?
Have a wonderful day, friends, and thank you for reading!

great post pearl!! I find it so funny when fellow blogging friends do posts similar to posts in my draft notebook :). I also hate making my bed…and probably more than you because I have a loft bed and its such a pain sometimes 😂.

Same! I have a loft bed and it is such a pain to make. I usually just say nobody will see it and just leave it messy 😂
Pearl says
Exactly, Aliya! 😂

Great post Per! Yesss clean sheets are a must have! I spend a lot of time on my bed reading, writing, and doing quizzing so I wash them all the time!

Ooh! Amazing post! I love thèse ideas! My magnet board definitely needs changed out and there are a lot of trinkets I should move out of the way and a few spaces I should organize. Thank you for posting this!
Pearl says
Yeah, I have the habit of letting things pile up so I get it. (I currently have two boxes from moving that need unpacked *fp*) Have fun organizing!

I SO needed this, Pearl! Let’s just say I have been very, (correction, super) busy lately! I agree with your point about having a made bed — it makes such a difference!

This was fun! Great ideas and very helpful. I love clean sheets too. They really do make a difference. I need to start making my bed every day. You got me on the cluttered walls: sticky notes, art, lists…I should clear it out a bit.
Pearl says
I’m glad it was helpful! Agh, I know it’s so easy to let things pile up but cleaning it is so worth it. 😀

Ooh thank you, those are a lot of good tips. I’m currently in the middle of rearranging my posters and decluttering my room.
And yes, making your bed is really a pain. XD (I feel like if I didn’t have my smaller blanket that won’t tuck in I wouldn’t hate it so much tho…)
Pearl says
Ooh, that’s awesome! (You need a bigger blanket. 😂) Thank you for reading!

Ahhh, this came at just the right time!! I’m planning on doing a room redo for spring and needed ideas. 🙂
Not sure what light color groupings to go with for the room. . . do you have any suggestions, Pearl? And this was a great post! <3
Pearl says
Oooh, you will have to send me pics when you’re done!
Hmm, I’m pretty specific to my own opinions but if you look at Pinterest and google, there are lots of color charts. 😀 I love pale blue, yellow, and white together especially. And pastels are lovely, too!

Ah, thank you so much for this post, Pearl! I’ll definitely be using some of these tips. Some are a bit harder than others, as my bed is the top bunk. I hope to one day have my own room with a single bed! XD Anyway, thanks for this post. <3
Pearl says
Of course! Bunks and lofts are SO hard to make, honestly. I’m guessing you’ll keep the bunk bed when Mia leaves or no? At least you’ll sorta have your own room. 😉 Thank you for reading and commenting, dear!
