Hey, friends!
Recently, Mayim and I were on my friend Kate’s podcast and one of the things we were talking about was being consistent in our time with God. It can be so hard with school, sports & other responsibilities to do it every day so for today’s post, I wanted to share some tips and things I’ve learned!
Also, I am in no way, shape or form perfect because none of us are- these are just things that have helped me grow and be more consistent.
1. worship music
Listening to worship music instead of any other music is one of the best ways to spend more time with God without putting in a ton of extra effort. (Not that you shouldn’t put in effort, but it’s a small change you can make!) Some of my favorite songs right now: Open Arms (Hallelujah) – gavn!, Walking On Water – Needtobreathe, Found and How To Be Yours – Chris Renzema (he just did a Christmas album that’s amazing if you want Christmas music), Good Grief – Tommy Moore, and Somebody to You – Rachel Lampa.
2. Bible app plans (with friends or by yourself)
I love the Bible app for making sure I get into the Word every day! Personally, I don’t use it as much as I used to because I love being able to write and journal in my Bible while I read it, but if I want a devotional to go with it or look at other translations, YouVersion is amazing! There are a ton of shorter & longer plans, some that are just reading or with a devotional to go along. If you want some accountability, invite a friend to do it with you and you can do it together.
3. set a reminder to pray
One of my friends was saying how she has a reminder on her phone to go off a couple times a day to remind her to take a minute and pray. It doesn’t have to be long but talking to God throughout your day literally changes your whole day, and if you’re someone who forgets to do it, set a reminder (or a few) and see if that helps you.
4. do it first or last
Personally, I love doing my Bible study right when I wake up because then it’s done and I won’t forget it later on, and it helps me start off my day in the best way. I know some other people like doing it before they go to bed and if that works for you, do it! I think a lot of it is finding what time you can focus and feel God’s presence the most.
5. listen to podcasts & sermons
There is a lot of negative on social media & the internet but I also think there are a ton of great resources and things that can help you grow in your faith. For example, if you don’t have a lot of time before you go somewhere, listen to a podcast or sermon (most churches have theirs online!) while you drive there. Another advantage of YouVersion is you can listen to the Bible if you don’t have time to read it.
6. find different ways you feel closest to God
For me, I love art journaling scripture in my Bible and listening to worship music while I do it. Prayer journaling has also helped me so much because I get way less distracted and I remember all the things I want to pray about. There are SO many different ways for you to learn and study God’s Word.
7. add memorizing scripture to your Bible time
On different ways to study God’s word, memorizing scripture I think is something that’s often overlooked but something that is so important (Psalm 119:11, Deuteronmy 11:18, Psalm 1:1-6). Something I was thinking about the other day was how Satan knows the Bible (Matthew 4:6) and it’s one of the ways he will use to to tear us down and discourage us and we need to be so much stronger in our faith and know the Bible so well because of that. (This article by Desiring God from John Piper was really interesting on this!) So adding memorizing verses can be so good and another way to add God to your day!
8. remember your priorities
A couple months ago, we had a guest speaker at our church and one of the things he asked was, “If God loved you the way you love Him, how loved would you feel?” And that’s something that has stuck with me so much. For example, if my mom only talked to me every week, we wouldn’t be very close and I wouldn’t feel like she loved me all that much. But my mom talks to me every day, multiple times a day. I think remembering that spending time with God and talking to Him should be on the top of our priorities list.
now, it’s your turn!
I hope you guys enjoyed this post and I’d love to hear your thoughts on this and things that you do!

I mean, thank God He doesn’t love me like I love Him, because it’s certainly not perfect! I prefer to read my Bible at night as opposed to mornings because nights are when I tend to be the most anxious, burnt out, stressed, whatever. I love all of these ideas and thoughts!

You did it again Pearl – I’ve literally been thinking about this and I needed this post! Thank you so much! I love what you said about the guest speaker saying “If God loved you the way you love Him, how loved would you feel?”.
Also have you listened to Ellie Holcomb? She is definitely my favorite Christian artist.
