Hey, friends!
Welcome back to part two of my room redo series! I posted the first part of this series a couple months ago before our addition was finished. We moved into our addition last month and I’ve finally started working on making my new bedroom how I want it. The main reason I switched rooms was because I wanted a closet I could actually use (To see a tour of my old bedroom, click here!) so I’ve been wanting to make it fun & use it to its full advantage. For today’s post, I’m going to be sharing some tips for keeping your closet clean & organized because for me at least, it’s so easy to throw everything in there and close the doors.
Let’s get into it!
make your closet a space you enjoy being in
Okay, so this isn’t an actual organization tip, but first and foremost: make your closet a place you actually enjoy being in. Hang some fun style inspo on the wall, a collage, or add fairy lights – just do whatever it takes to make it a place you enjoy being in. This will make it more fun to pick out your clothes and you’ll keep the space cleaner and less messy!
use space saving velvet hangers
This one is a pretty popular tip in the closet organization world – and you guys, it definitely works! I love these blush pink space-saving hangers from Walmart! In addition to helping to save space, these hangers make your clothes pop and your closet look that much more organized and cohesive. I absolutely 100% recommend getting velvet hangers for your closet!
utilize the space you have
Every closet, regardless of the size is a little different. You might have much more hanging space than you do shelf space or you might have the opposite: much more shelf space and not a lot of hanging space. If you do have that hanging space, don’t be afraid to hang everything – like even t-shirts! If you don’t have a lot of hanging space, fold everything and store it on your shelves. For all those of you who’d like more hanging storage, you could easily get a clothes hanging rack and just use it as décor in your room or closet. Here is one on Amazon that you can get in black or white that’s less than $30!
conceal with bins
This is the secret to having an organized closet. When you make a mess looking for an outfit, you easily throw everything into bins to deal with later and have it look clean. I just got mine cheap from Amazon and I love that they match my hangers & comforter on my bed.
stash your shoes somewhere else if you’re tight on space
My closet doesn’t have a good spot to put my shoes (mainly my fault because I wanted a place to put cute & fun decor), and now I just keep my shoes in under the bed storage boxes. I have two, one for every day, running, shoes & spikes and another for cute shoes I don’t wear all the time. Maybe an under-bed plastic bin won’t work for you, but don’t be afraid to get creative with your shoe storage!
fold clothes on shelves or baskets
I think that the biggest thing that you can do to make folded clothes work in your closet is to keep them folded and fold them so that they actually fit on your shelf. Make sure to find a folding method that makes your clothes fit on your shelves/bins! There is nothing worse than shoving clothes that don’t fit into bins or on the shelves.
use your jewelry and accessories as decor
I don’t know about you, but I always see all of these closets on Pinterest with perfect décor and accent pieces, which isn’t really practical for me, haha! I found this rose gold jewelry hanger on Amazon and I use it for all my jewelry. I also have this metal tray I’m going to spray paint that I keep other accessories in that don’t fit in my vanity. I love that they add a cute touch to my closet while being functional!
be honest with yourself about what you actually wear (& declutter)
I’m pretty much constantly adding new clothes to my closet and surprise: my closet isn’t getting any bigger! I actually really enjoy going through my clothes – often it helps me rediscover items that I haven’t worn in a while and also get rid of some! If your clothes are still in good condition you can either pass them down to younger siblings/cousins/friends, donate them, or make some money with them at a reselling store or online with apps like Poshmark!
regularly clean
Am I the only one who can have a perfectly clean closet and then I go looking for an outfit and it’s a mess within seconds? This is why cleaning your closet regularly is so important! I usually tidy my room & closet daily, and then sweep/dust/wipe/straighten once a week when I do laundry.
Things I used in my closet: Organizer, Bins, Jewelry Hanger, Velvet Safe Spacing Hangers, and Plastic Storage Bins.
now, it’s your turn!
Alright you guys, that’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed these tips and if you’d like to see more posts like this, subscribe and comment down below!

Wow! This was so inspiring. I don’t have a closet, but I love your setup!
I have a question about shelves and desks– I have an antique desk, but it’s often cluttered with random things that get dragged out that don’t have a specific place, and I feel like my bookshelves always end up way too chaotic with all the books, awards, and horse models I try to fit in. Do you have any tips for organizing your desk and shelf space?

OOh! Well I’m Ana from YWW, but I don’t know if it will show my name here… anyways! I might have a few suggestions?
Personally, I love to use containers. All the way, every single day!! They’re amazing. Even old shoe boxes and plastic bins I found downstairs… Anything I can find. Also jars. Anyways!
So if your desk has drawers, I highly recommend using containers or dividers of any kind to keep it more organized. Labels, too! If you can find some sticker labels… Girl they make such a difference! I have sets of plastic drawers in my closet for clothes and craft supplies, medicines, fidgets, and papers… and they’re all labeled. Which actually makes SUCH a difference because if a drawer is labeled “important papers”, for instance, even if it has extra room, I won’t just stuff an extra ball of yarn or another pill bottle in that drawer. Cuz that would drive me nuts.
For decoration stuff… oh gosh I try to keep my decor limited… so maybe a cycling decoration system? Where sometimes you have these models and awards displayed, but then in a month you’ll switch them out. OOH and floating shelves!! And hanging things on the wall! I like to put every plaque, picture, ribbon award up on the wall. Ribbons can hang on nails. Or you could put up a bulletin board (or even just a strip of corkboard) on the wall, and pin them up there. Or a string on two nails with some clothespins. Literally any way you can keep things up off your shelves and desktops and bring them up to the wall.
And books… I just set them on my shelves like you would see them in a library. I have to go through my room and backpack every so often to keep from buildup… but yeah!
All that to say… I don’t know your specific situation, so maybe that’s all useless. But that’s just my two cents!! God bless!

Oh wow — your closet is so organized and pretty! 😍
Mine’s not as organized as I’d like. I have a cubby in there with some of Mia’s legos and my old legos (we don’t play with legos anymore, haha, but I’m not sure what to do with them… Hm, maybe my brothers would take them), I also have some Barbie accessories in there (we don’t play with Barbies anymore either — but my younger sisters’ room doesn’t have room for them!), and my old journals and cross-stitching stuff. I don’t have a good have a good place to put that stuff. I kind of wish I could get rid of everything and start over, you know? 😂
I also love going through my closet. My younger sisters are pretty much in constant need of more clothes, so anything I don’t want // doesn’t fit goes straight to them to try on. And yes, you rediscover so many great things! Even though I clean out my closet frequently, I still have a lot of tops. I’m not sure how that works. 😂
Anyway, lovely post!
