Hey, friends!
Whether you like it or not, school’s about to start (or some of you may have already started.) and we’re all about to have a lot more things to get done. Which is why I’m doing a post with productivity tips to help you get more done & just start off the school year with a good routine. I’m online/homeschooled so these tips are going to be more focused on that but they should be helpful no matter what kind of school you do. Let’s get into it!
create routines
Routines are so helpful & generally just a good thing to start at the beginning of the school year. Whether it’s a morning routine, evening routine, after-school routine, study routine,
put away your phone
Something I started doing last year was not getting on my phone until I got all my school done for the day (there were def some times when I didn’t do it 😂) and I’m planning on doing it again this year because it helped me get done so much faster. Getting on your phone right away to start the morning is pretty much the worst way to start your day so even if you don’t wait until you get all your work done, maybe try to not be on it the first 30 minutes or hour. Same for if you’re trying to study, put your phone in a separate room so you’re not checking it and getting distracted constantly.
have a planner / bullet journal / notion
When it comes to planning, you really just need to find what works for you. I did bullet journaling for the longest time, I used Notion last year (and still use it some just not as much over the summer when I have less going on) and right now I’m planning on using just a normal planner. Either way, pick something to keep track of what you need to get done & when.
find what time peaks your productivity
Personally, morning is the time when I’m most productive and then I usually try to get all my school work done right away and then work on blog posts/writing/my business. But maybe early afternoon or the evening is when you can get the most done. Same with planning, you have to find what works best for you and when you are most productive.
have a specific work place
Mainly somewhere where you won’t be constantly distracted & you can focus easily. Maybe you work best sitting at a desk or you like being cozy with a blanket on your couch. And depending on your mood, sometimes it can help to change it up. Most of the time though, it helps me to have a specific time that I’m going to get school done at and a specific place.
get enough sleep / drink enough water
Literally my whole mood depends on how much sleep I’ve gotten and if I’ve had enough water 😂 It can be really easy to forget to drink water so I recommend just having a water bottle and remembering to take drinks every 5-10 minutes. Also getting a good night’s sleep can change your whole day/focus.
take breaks
Even if school’s going really well, make sure to take breaks every 45 minutes to an hour. I know some people who like do to the pomorodo method and work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. Either way, make sure you’re taking breaks and not sitting for hours at a time without moving around!!
now, it’s your turn!
When do you start school? Favorite class?

Love this! My planner is literally my lifeline, haha. I go to private school so I’m curious – as a homescholler, do you study some of everything, or have you started picking and choosing what you learn based on what you want your career to be?

Ooh I love this Pearl! Sooooo helpful! I definitely relate to the needing to drink enough water, sleep enough, and have a system. I started school last Monday and I’m still settling in but things are going good! My favorite class this year is “Writing & Marketing”—since I love to write and am working on starting a business. And I love being homeschooled. It’s so nice to have flexibility and be able to decide how I work best then implement that. When did you start school?
Pearl says
thanks, leah!! and yes, i completely agree. that sounds like a super cool class, hope you have a great school year! <3
